Disclaimer

Last updated 5 August 2026

ClimbGrades publishes two kinds of thing: grade conversion tools, and first-hand climbing guides. Both are offered for general information only. Please read this page before relying on either.

Climbing is dangerous

Rock climbing, bouldering and related activities are inherently dangerous and can result in serious injury, permanent disability or death. Nothing on this website reduces that risk. You are responsible for your own safety, for assessing your own ability and fitness, for checking your equipment, and for the decisions you make at the crag. If you are inexperienced, seek qualified instruction rather than relying on anything you read here.

Grade conversions

The conversion tables are compiled from published comparison charts and reviewed periodically. Grades are inherently subjective and no conversion between systems is exact. The same grade varies between countries, crags and even individual routes, and the real difficulty of any route depends on the weather, the conditions, your height and build, your style and the specific features of the rock. Treat every conversion on this site as an approximation and never as a reason to commit to a route you are not prepared for.

Climbing guides, routes and access

Our destination guides describe what the author found on a specific trip on specific dates. They are travel writing, not a guidebook and not a topo. In particular:

  • Bolts, anchors, fixed gear and rock quality change, degrade and fail. Any comment about fixed gear describes one moment in time and must not be relied on.
  • Access permissions, opening hours, entry fees, parking and land ownership change, sometimes overnight. Crags close.
  • Approaches, trails and river crossings change with the seasons and the weather.
  • Route names, grades and star ratings come from guidebooks, community databases such as theCrag, and the author's own opinion. They may be wrong, disputed or out of date.
  • Prices, transport times and opening hours were correct when the author paid them and will drift.

Always check the current guidebook, local climbing organisations, land managers and local climbers before travelling to or climbing at any area described here.

Visas, insurance and travel information

Any visa, entry, insurance or other travel information on this site is a general starting point only, is specific to no particular nationality, and changes frequently. It is not immigration, legal or financial advice. Always confirm your own situation with the relevant government, embassy, consulate or insurer before booking or travelling.

External links and affiliate links

Some pages contain affiliate links, including to accommodation, flights and travel insurance. If you click through and make a purchase we may receive a small commission at no additional cost to you. This never changes what we recommend or what we write. We are not responsible for the content, availability, accuracy or practices of any third-party website linked from this site.

No warranty and limitation of liability

We make no representations or warranties of any kind, express or implied, about the completeness, accuracy, reliability or suitability of any information on this website. Any reliance you place on it is strictly at your own risk. To the fullest extent permitted by law, ClimbGrades.com, its author and its contributors will not be liable for any loss, injury or damage — whether direct, indirect, incidental, special or consequential, and whether in contract, tort or otherwise — arising from your use of, or inability to use, this website or anything described on it.

Corrections

If something here is wrong or out of date, we want to know. Conditions and access change constantly and reader corrections are the main way this site stays accurate — get in touch.
